These Aster Cafe wedding photos are among my favorite that I’ve had the honor to capture here in Minneapolis over the last 8 years. Jade & Adam’s Star Wars themed wedding (on May the 4th be with you) was fun, classy, and also very touching. Their beloved Yorkie, Ted, was battling cancer and was able to just barely hang on until the morning after the wedding day. He was in good spirits on the wedding day and sure looked sharp in his bowtie. These wedding images where an extra honor for me to capture knowing the weight of the situation.
Before heading over to Aster Cafe for the ceremony and reception the wedding party got ready at the buzzing Hewing Hotel. The bridesmaids had an epic pillow fight while jumping on the bed and the boys laughed it up while showing off their well paired wedding day socks. Jade wore a Mira Zwillinger gown from L’atelier Couture Bridal Boutique and her ladies donned Adrianna Papell dresses that seamlessly and subtly fit the Star Wars theme. Adam and his guys were sharp in Heimie’s Haberdashery‘s finest. Jade’s great friend Brooke D. Carl beautifully worked the hair and makeup while the rings were from Arthur’s.
After the pillow fights and a whole lot of laughter Jade & Adam shared an intimate First Look in the alley behind the Hewing Hotel. They shared this sweet moment before we began all the wedding party and family photos, prior the heading over to Aster Cafe for all the days festivities.
Aster Cafe Ceremony and Reception in the River Room
Aster Cafe, along Saint Anthony Main, provides such a great space in an equally fantastic location. With it’s old world charm, underneath a canopy of trees along the mighty Mississippi, Aster Cafe sits on arguably the most romantic street in all of Minneapolis with it’s beautiful brick road and gorgeous panoramic downtown skyline views. It’s fitting too that Aster Cafe’s River Room (where both their ceremony and reception took place) was styled after Parisian cafes, with Adam proposing to Jade in Paris. Artemisa added beautiful floral touches to take things to the next level, and Jade, Adam, and their friends and family created a ton of tasteful and unique DIY elements. The River Room glows with bright window light during the day and becomes warm and intimate after sundown. Everything flowed together perfectly, from the heartfelt ceremony to the light saber battles and craft cocktails that followed.
Sunset Photos along Saint Anthony Main
Choosing such a great location in Aster Cafe allowed Jade & Adam and I to sneak away quickly during sunset to hit all the Saint Anthony Main highlights including the old time brick of Main Street, the views along the river, and both the Stone Arch Bridge and Hennepin Avenue Bridge.
Wedding Toasts and Dancing the Night Away
After touching wedding speeches Jade & Adam danced and laughed it up with their bridal party, family, and friends during the tail end of their reception. To end the evening Jade & Adam took an Umbrella lit (Jade’s DIY handiwork) stroll down Main Street and took in the beautiful Minneapolis Skyline at night. RIP Ted, and May the 4th be with Jade & Adam always.
Fun Fact: These Aster Cafe wedding photos weren’t my first Star Wars themed wedding. I shot my first one all the way back in 2012. See those fun wedding photos here: http://www.aframeforward.com/jess-joe-stillwater-mn-wedding/
Liz and Nicco celebrated their big day in style with an elegant black tie wedding in San Francisco, at the Mark Hopkins Intercontinental Hotel, a historic wedding venue. The bride and groom exchanged vows in front of 150 friends and family before moving onto the wedding reception to celebrate their new marriage and dance the night away!
First Date at the Rooftop Bar in the Mark Hopkins Hotel
After hitting it off at Nicco’s annual ugly Christmas sweater party, Liz and Nicco spent their first official date at a romantic rooftop bar overlooking the San Francisco skyline. That rooftop bar, the Top of the Mark, also happens to sit on the 19th floor of the Mark Hopkins Intercontinental Hotel, where all this wedding goodness would take place three years later!
Getting Ready With the Fun Bridesmaids and Groomsmen
The bride and her bridesmaids spent the morning in a penthouse suite at the Mark Hopkins overlooking downtown San Francisco and the SF Bay. The hair stylists and makeup artists from Bay Area Beautiful helped the ladies prepare for the big day, styling their makeup and hair to accentuate their natural beauty. Liz and her gorgeous bridesmaids looked amazing together with their navy blue bridesmaid dresses against the stunning Maggie Sottero beaded gown. Nicco got ready with his groomsmen and family and enjoyed the excitement of the day with some celebratory drinks. He looked sharp and ready with his group of black tie groomsmen!
Elegant Wedding Ceremony in the Grand Mark Hotel Ballroom
A unique and artistic ceremony space, the Room of the Dons ballroom is characterized by the hotels historic architectural details in top notch chandeliers and high ceilings. The Flower House designed tall floral arrangements and lined the aisle with rose petals adding to the luxurious ceremony design. The Mersonacta String Quartet accentuated the elegant atmosphere with heavenly ceremony music.
When Liz walked down the aisle with her father, Nicco’s face lit up. Father Charles Regal of the White Robed Monks personalized the ceremony and kept the tone lighthearted and sentimental. The wedding guests were filled with excitement as Liz and Nicco kissed as husband and wife for the first time and happily made their way back down the aisle.
Mark Hopkins Hotel: A Luxury Wedding Venue in San Francisco
The Mark Hopkins Intercontinental Hotel wedding venue is known as one of the best luxury venues for a wedding in San Francisco. The hotel hosts classy wedding ceremonies and receptions in lavish ballrooms in a perfect downtown SF location. The hotels wedding coordination team did an awesome job keeping the wedding day moving along smoothly. Dakota of Thomas Hughes Films filmed the day and was a pleasure to work beside. I first fell in love with this city, years ago, when I photographed a San Francisco engagement session on Baker Beach with the iconic Golden Gate Bridge in the background. The more time I spent here, the deeper in love I fell. The downtown SF area near the hotel made stepping outside for portraits of the bride and groom, and their bridal party, so much fun and gave us perfect iconic San Fran backdrops in every direction.
The wonderful Jutta and her team from A Day Like No Other wedding planners worked with the wedding coordination team at the Mark Hopkins Hotel and did a fantastic job setting up the Peacock Court and Ballroom. The uplighting design by Impact Lighting set the reception’s mood with soft, golden light.
After the bridal party entered the reception, Liz and Nicco shared a romantic first dance. Once the guests had enjoyed the delicious wedding meals and cut the cake, the real party started! The newly weds were finally able to celebrate fully with their family and friends as they danced the night away to the awesome upbeat music provided by Hip Service.
After the wedding, the happy couple enjoyed the beginning of their newlywed life honeymooning in Italy!
Awesome San Fran Wedding Vendors
The location was almost as cool as this couple. Em & Matt and I had an awesome engagement session in Minneapolis where they live and as you can see below they topped that with their destination wedding on Sapodilla Bay in Turks & Caicos. They did it right with their nearest and dearest.
I cannot even begin to tell you how great it was working with these two and all their awesome friends and family! I love destination weddings and Mandi & Rudy’s 4th of July weekend wedding in Joseph, Oregon was one for the ages. Everything took place around the absolutely gorgeous Wallowa Lake which sits somewhat isolated from the rest of the world in northeast Oregon. From the firework show, to the beautiful log cabin resort, to the breathtaking ceremony high up on the moraine overlooking the lake, everything was just absolutely amazing. Following all that goodness there was an epic dance party that went into the wee hours until we ran around in the foothills under the starry and stunningly brilliant midnight sky. I don’t use this term lightly (or ever) but this destination wedding was truly amazeballs. 😉
Mandi found me searching the interwebs for all things ‘eco-friendly wedding’ and incorporated a lot of green into her big day which was very cool. I don’t know what can top this wedding but I’m sure looking forward to finding out!
