The Blaisdell, in the heart of Minneapolis, was the perfect wedding reception venue for Niyo & Arun. This was truly one epic party. I’ll share a bit about The Blaisdell wedding venue, as well as some fun facts about my most awesome couple. Their dance party was absolutely one for the ages, so be sure to view the full gallery of images below!
Fun little backstory first: Arun and I met 9 years ago, at the inaugural Midwest Tomato Fest, absolutely covered in chunks of tomatoes. I was the official event photographer and captured some super fun action shots of that crazy time. Arun’s also a photographer and has been a huge supporter of my wedding photography work ever since. I was truly honored to be able to capture his big day.
Wedding Reception at The Blaisdell
The Blaisdell as a wedding reception venue is really great, and especially for this amazing dance crew here. Below are a few of my favorite things about this wedding venue:
1. Picturesque grounds outside, classic & timeless look on the exterior, and a perfectly fused modernness inside.
2. Large open space, huge ceilings, bright white walls, with perfectly placed accent areas providing great contrast. As a photographer, it’s an excellent place to capture amazing photos.
3. The staff was really great to work with and received high praise from my bride & groom.
Niyo & Arun’s Indian Ceremony & American Reception
Niyo & Arun got married in Chennai, India where Arun is from. Also from India, Niyo grew up in Hyderabad. The couple had a traditional Indian wedding ceremony at a temple near the beach of Bay of Bengal. They saved the jump-off dance party wedding reception at The Blaisdell for their friends back here in Minnesota.
Coming into this I knew Arun and his crew were into dance BUT I did not realize the level of awesomeness they were going to bring. The energy and joy was through the roof and inspiring. Niyo & Arun’s Bollywood inspired dance group in Minneapolis is called SAATH (South Asian Arts & Theater House) and they showed up in full force. They teach classes at Tapestry Folk Dance Center every Thursday at 7:30pm. The two are also part of the group who puts together annual performances at MinneUtsav (a performing arts festival), MN Fringe Festival, and for various other platforms.
See all their amazing dance moves in the wedding photo gallery below.

This Winter Wedding at JW Marriott Mall of America is one of my favorites to date. The JW Marriott is a beautifully designed space that is great for weddings and events. Although the JW can accommodate over 1,000 guests, this one was a small family affair. Before the ceremony and reception my adventurous couple had me following them as they climbed up the frozen ice of Minnehaha Falls. What an adventure it was, complete with fresh falling snow and lots of laughs with their wedding party.
After our fun in the snow we headed back to the JW Marriott for their intimate ceremony and a beautiful dinner. To end the evening the couple hired a huge party bus to go on an epic holiday lights tour. As a result of all the fun on the bus we had to make a quick bathroom pitstop at McDonald’s, which led to one of my brides going full force into the kids play area, for what was yet another great moment in an evening filled with fun and laughter.

Fall weddings in northern Minnesota are so very nice. These Hungry Jack Lodge wedding photos are full of love & laughter, and bathed in absolutely beautiful scenery. Jean & Sam are some of the coolest people I’ve had the honor to share the day with. Their love for each other, the scenery, the way they wore their hearts on their sleeves, and their awesome souls, made this a perfect Northwoods wedding day.
Sam is a true jack-of-all-trades designing and hand making some rock solid wedding decor, an awesome topographical nature & wildlife figure seating chart, hatchets, arrows, the wedding band, and even his own suit. Jean also contributed many touches and has the most awesomely genuine smile and energy. They honored their ancestors and the sacred lands with native touches and a sweet Anishinaabe marriage blessing. Along with their friends & families, Jean & Sam made the most of their Gunflint Trail wedding on HungryJack Lake, and I was truly honored to be a part of it.
The first section below showcases my personal favorite images from the day, followed by some great venue information, and then the full set of images for those who want to see more.
Hungry Jack Lodge Information:
If you want a Northwoods wedding, Hungry Jack Lodge, 32 miles north of Grand Marais is such a perfect spot. Not only do they have epic views over Hungry Jack Lake but they have more facilities and accommodations than almost anywhere else along the Gunflint Trail. A big bonus is that the staff was super cool to my couple, and also really great to work with.
Hungry Jack Lodge Resort & Campground is found at the halfway point of the Gunflint Trail, right next to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA). It’s the only resort on Hungry Jack Lake and surrounded by the six million acre Superior National Forest. The resort lies just 2 miles south of the Canadian Border. It’s the perfect balance of convenience & amenities along with the peaceful calm of the Northwoods lakeside. You can actually access the BWCA right from Hungry Jack Lake. With only one small portage, it makes it a perfect place for fun day trips into the BWCA. I can’t recommend this place enough for not only your wedding but for a vacation visit as well. See below for a list of offerings and amenities.
What Hungry Jack Lodge Provides:
Large Historic Log Cabin Lakeside Wedding Ceremonies Lakeside Reception & Banquet Area Indoor Banquet/Dining Area (up to 100 people) Up-to-Date, Modern Kitchen Full Liquor & Bar Services Apps/Hors D’oeuvres/Deserts Special Meals/Buffets Optional Tent Spaces Fireside Dining
These Napa Valley engagement photos at Artesa Winery were a lot of fun to shoot. Artesa sits on some really beautiful grounds and was designed by some clearly talented folks but it was my super cool couple who made it extra awesome. We started shooting near Artesa’s super unique, bunker like main building. We explored the grounds further, utilizing the different art installations and pools for some one-of-a-kind photos. After finishing up near the main wine tasting area we got permission to explore the grape vineyards up close. Fall provided us with some great colors amongst the rows of grapes. The laid-back nature and love between my couple shined even more vibrantly. We finished up our engagement session exploring deeper into Napa Valley. As a result we found winding roads, rows of olive trees, longs grasses, and rolling hills with beautiful vistas.
These Camrose Hill Flower Farm Wedding Photos feature Laura & Ryan as they celebrated an absolutely gorgeous May wedding day with their nearest and dearest. This is one of my favorite wedding venues in Minnesota. Camrose Hill also doubles as a flower farm and the grounds are just magical. If you’re wanting an outdoor wedding in a beautiful natural setting, this place is for you. Laura & Ryan did it right and what a special day they had.
Stellar list of vendors who contributed to such an awesome wedding day:
These Aster Cafe wedding photos are among my favorite that I’ve had the honor to capture in my 10 years as a Minneapolis Wedding Photographer. Jade & Adam’s Star Wars themed wedding (on May-the-4th-be-with-you) was fun, classy, and also very touching. Their beloved Yorkie, Ted, was battling cancer and was able to just barely hang on until the morning after the wedding day. He was in good spirits on the wedding day and sure looked sharp in his bowtie. These wedding images where an extra honor for me to capture knowing the weight of the situation.
I’ll share some details about this fine Minneapolis wedding venue below, followed by a large collection of images that will walk you through an entire wedding at Aster Cafe.
Aster Cafe Wedding Venue Information:
What makes Aster Cafe an absolutely outstanding Minneapolis wedding venue is first and foremost the location. Sitting on a gorgeous cobblestone street right along the Mississippi River, the Minneapolis skyline sits perfectly right across the bank. The whole area could be a giant Hollywood film set with perfect photo ops in every direction. You have the Stone Arch Bridge, Saint Anthony Main, Father Hennepin Park, the Hennepin Avenue Bridge, Nicollet Island all within walking distant nearby. The unique facade on the outside of Aster Cafe makes a great backdrop as well with it’s beautiful stone exterior and old world cafe touches.
Inside Aster Cafe is equally as beautiful too. With absolutely gorgeous window light pouring in your wedding photos will be lit perfectly. The inside space at Aster is best for smaller more intimate wedding ceremonies and receptions. Around a hundred wedding guests fit inside the space nicely. Be sure to take a stroll in the neighborhood and stop inside for a peek. I think you’ll absolutely love it. I’ll share a large collection of images to help you imagine your own wedding at Aster Cafe below.

The large set of images below will help you see what a wedding day at the Aster Cafe would look like.
Getting Ready Photos at the Hewing Hotel
Before heading over to Aster Cafe for the ceremony and reception the wedding party got ready at the buzzing Hewing Hotel. The bridesmaids had an epic pillow fight while jumping on the bed and the boys laughed it up while showing off their well paired wedding day socks. Jade wore a Mira Zwillinger gown from L’atelier Couture Bridal Boutique and her ladies donned Adrianna Papell dresses that seamlessly and subtly fit the Star Wars theme. Adam and his guys were sharp in Heimie’s Haberdashery‘s finest. Jade’s great friend Brooke D. Carl beautifully worked the hair and makeup while the rings were from Arthur’s.
After the pillow fights and a whole lot of laughter Jade & Adam shared an intimate First Look in the alley behind the Hewing Hotel. They shared this sweet moment before we began all the wedding party and family photos, prior the heading over to Aster Cafe for all the days festivities.
Wedding Ceremony and Reception in the River Room at Aster Cafe
With it’s old world charm, underneath a canopy of trees along the mighty Mississippi, Aster Cafe sits on arguably the most romantic street in all of Minneapolis. It’s fitting too that Aster Cafe’s River Room (where both their ceremony and reception took place) was styled after Parisian cafes, with Adam proposing to Jade in Paris. Artemisa added beautiful floral touches to take things to the next level, and Jade, Adam, and their friends and family created a ton of tasteful and unique DIY elements. The River Room glows with bright window light during the day and becomes warm and intimate after sundown. Everything flowed together perfectly, from the heartfelt ceremony to the light saber battles and craft cocktails that followed.
