Sessions are never about awkward directives or fake smiles. The whole point is to make every shoot feel natural, fun, and full of personality. The version of your senior you’ve been watching for years is the version we photograph.
If they hate having their picture taken, that’s actually the place we start. We build the session around something they’re already doing. The instrument, the sport, the art, the friends, the dog. Once they’re doing the thing they actually do, the camera disappears and the real photos start.
I photograph a specific kind of kid, and I’m not shy about it. Big hearts, big dreams, real interests, real friends, real family. Kids whose feeds aren’t a wall of selfies. Kids who play instruments, make things, take care of people, show up. Musical kids especially, because kids who love music are basically the best kind of people. A Mix of Guided Portraits, Posed Moments, and Documentary Time
Every session moves between three modes as the light turns.
Guided portraits where I’m directing the light and the frame. Posed moments with the things that matter to them, the instrument, the art supplies, the jersey, the gear. And then completely unguided documentary time when they’re actually doing the thing they love.
That last part is where the photographs stop looking like a photoshoot and start looking like them. Strong portraits, real personality, the stuff their life actually revolves around.
Galleries arrive within two to four weeks. Every image is individually hand-edited by me. No Photoshop body work, no AI retouching. They look like themselves.

The peak light at the end of the day, plus everything that falls into it. Ninety minutes is enough to settle in, get past the camera-shy phase, and end the session in the best light Minnesota gives us.

Start at the gym, the field, the studio, the skate park, wherever the thing they love actually happens. That part stays loose and unposed. Then we shift to portraits as the light turns.
Neither session has a sharp cutoff. If they’re in a good groove or the light is doing something rare, we keep going.

I grew up in Eagan and graduated from Eagan High School. I know these parks the way only a kid who used to ride bikes through them does. The light at Lebanon Hills in late August. The wildflower field at Patrick Eagan in mid-September. The snow at Holz Farm in February. The sweet spots aren’t on any photographer’s location list, they’re just home.
I’m also a Minneapolis wedding photographer with the technical and artistic range to handle anything the day gives us. Bad weather, harsh sun, fading dusk, last-minute changes. None of it derails the session. Minnesota weather is its own collaborator and I plan around it.
From Eagan’s Quietest Trails to Downtown Minneapolis Rooftops
Locally in Eagan, my favorite spots are Lebanon Hills Regional Park (lakes, beaches, tall pines, wide-open prairies, endless variety), Patrick Eagan Park (quiet natural textures and the hidden sweet spots I learned from years of riding through it), Holz Farm Park (bright barns, vintage textures, flower fields), Eagan Central Park (clean accessible landscaping), Blackhawk Park (open green fields, fishing dock), Thomas Lake Park (lakeside paths, reflective water), and Caponi Art Park (sculpture trails, creative open spaces).
Beyond Eagan, plenty of seniors want a second location with more urban texture. Downtown Minneapolis rooftops, the Stone Arch Bridge, the North Loop, Mill Ruins Park. Saint Paul along Summit Avenue or the Cathedral neighborhood. Surrounding suburbs like Apple Valley, Burnsville, Lakeville, Rosemount, Mendota Heights, Inver Grove Heights, Woodbury. Wherever means something to your senior.
If there’s somewhere outside the metro that matters, a cabin, a lake, a place they grew up, I’ve done plenty of those too. Custom quotes are easy and I’m happy to put one together once we know what you’re picturing.
